The Zone - Collective Impact

Providing research, learning, and evaluation support for partnership initiative in NE Spokane

Challenge: Over half (52%) of households in NE Spokane have family incomes that are either under the poverty level or are considered ‘asset limited/income constrained, employed’ (ALICE). The 2021 median household income in Northeast Spokane is just over $45,000 compared to $64,079 in Spokane County. To expand opportunity, improve outcomes for families and coordinate investments in the region, community partners formed The ZoNE – a collective impact initiative modeled after the Harlem Children’s Zone.

Opportunity: Urbanova serves as a partner to the ZoNE, providing backbone support for research, data and learning activities so partners receive needed feedback on results achieved. From fielding community surveys to tracking student outcomes for extended learning activities, to developing data indicators for grant reports, Urbanova works alongside ZoNE partners to support this collaborative initiative backed by over 50 local organizations.
