ZEV Co-op Brings Community-Powered Electric Vehicle Carshare to Spokane

Spokane, WA (May 30, 2025) – ZEV Co-op, the nonprofit electric vehicle (EV) carshare program dedicated to mobility equity and sustainability, is coming to Spokane — and they want to hear directly from the community. In partnership with Spokane-based Urbanova, Avista, and key supporters, ZEV Co-op is launching two new EV carshare hubs in the city and is seeking input on where those locations should be and what types of vehicles residents want to see.

The effort is supported with funding from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act and a grant award from the Washington Department of Ecology. The CCA supports Washington’s climate action efforts by putting cap-and-invest dollars to work reducing climate pollution, creating jobs, and improving public health. Information about the CCA is available at www.climate.wa.gov

“Avista is excited about the opportunity to bring more mobility options to people throughout Spokane. We have a great relationship with ZEV Co-Op and look forward to getting community input to help connect neighborhoods with this electric carshare program.” said Rendall Farley, Senior Manager Clean Energy Solutions.

This car sharing expansion aims to address transportation gaps in underserved areas by offering affordable, eco-friendly mobility options that are community-focused and inclusive. ZEV Co-op already operates successful locations on Bainbridge Island, Seattle, and Spokane’s Gonzaga University. With Spokane’s next chapter of clean transportation in motion, local voices are critical in shaping its direction.

“We believe the people who live and work in Spokane should help determine where these new carshare hubs go,” said ZEV founder Greg Dronkert. “This is about building a network that works for real people in real neighborhoods — and we can’t do that without community input.”

Proposed hub locations include Moran Prairie’s STA Park & Ride, MLK Jr. Center, Kendall Yards/West Central, North Spokane Library, and the Thrive International partnership site with the Spokane Public Library. ZEV Co-op also wants to know what kind of EVs are most useful — from electric sedans and ADA vans to cargo bikes and small neighborhood vehicles.
